The APS line of electromechanical servopress spindles from Blue Tiger Engineering GmbH in Germany (blue-tiger.info), features 18 sizes with compressive and tensile outputs of 5 to 500 kN. Stroke lengths range up to 1,200 mm and speeds reach 1,500 mm/sec. It comes with an in-line planetary gearbox but can be fitted with a right-angle gearbox and a toothed-belt drive. And unlike fluid-power alternatives, the servocontrolled spindle press uses energy only when operating, so there is no need for fluid storage or constant pressures. The device is available in North America from American Sales Development LLC, Fairfield, Conn. (americansalesdevelopment.net).
