Ultra-Thin Coils Find Wide Use in Medical Equipment

Feb. 9, 2016
High purity precious metals and unique manufacturing processes are used to create ultra-fine coils and precision-machined products.
At Booth 1894 in Hall D at the MD&M West show this week, Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo features its low-impurity precious-metal materials and unique manufacturing processes for creating ultra-fine coils and precision-machined products. The company develops and manufactures precious-metal materials for a wide range of applications from electrodes and sensor components to radiopaque markers. Many of their products have found wide use in medical devices and equipment.

In its fourth appearance at MD&M West, the company discusses its fabrication technologies for precision-cut products, including CNC lathes that are used to make customized shapes, and 3D X-ray computed-tomography techniques used for quality management.  Prototypes such as electrode sensors can be viewed via a digital microscope and from 3D X-ray CT scans.

Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo also presents its PtW8 ultra-fine wire coiling, which is expected to have wide application in sensors, electrodes, and other electrical products, especially in medical equipment. Drawing and coiling the wires is made possible using pure materials and unique manufacturing processes to produce wires as thin as 10 um. Visitors can view the coils via a digital microscope. Other precious-metal fabricated products and technologies will be featured as well.
