Toshiba Imaging, a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., has introduced a new full-HD video camera rated for medical use. The IK-HD5UM  is debuting this week at MD&M West in Anaheim, Calif. (booth No. 2190, Hall D).

Toshiba’s camera meets the IEC 60601-1 Medical Design Standards (3rd edition) requirements for medical and surgical imaging applications. The 3-CMOS high-definition video camera features a 1,920 × 1,080 pixel format with both DVI-D and USB 3.0 outputs. It is adapted for use in in surgical microscopy,
surgical light camera integration, or surgical room monitoring and surveillance, along with other non-patient contact and non-diagnostic imaging applications.

The IK-HD5UM utilizes Toshiba Imaging’s proprietary three-chip prism block technology, providing excellent sensitivity and color reproduction in real-time HD video. Other features include a C-mount lens mount; remote control via RS232; switchable formats between 1,080p and 1,080i; up to 1,000 TV lines resolution; five user-configurable scene files; and a binning mode for a 4× increase in sensitivity. Improved sensitivity in the near infrared spectrum supports imaging applications that use fluorescing agents, such as ICG.
