The future of auto design

Students at Detroit's College for Creative Studies (CSS) just finished competing for design awards in a contest sponsored by auto glassmaker PPG Industries Inc.,
Student Shigenori Maeda won first place with this design for a two-passenger electric sports car sporting a nearly all-glass top.

Students at Detroit's College for Creative Studies (CSS) just finished competing for design awards in a contest sponsored by auto glassmaker PPG Industries Inc., Troy, Mich. The fourth annual competition focused on showing how glass adds utility or betters the overall design of a concept vehicle based on a Honda Element. Awards were presented at this year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The winning entrants received glass trophies and a $1,500 scholarship for first place, $1,000 for second, and $500 for third.

Judging focused on how students differentiated their vehicles and met consumer requirements for utility, style, comfort, and convenience. Criteria included appropriateness of the design and creativity, as well as the students' sketch work and professionalism of their presentations.
