Modular Servo Drives Facilitate Motion Control Tasks

Sept. 28, 2017
The drives are highlighted for their ease of implementation and connectivity via several bus protocols.

In Booth #C-1751, Kollmorgen features its new AKD2G servo drives. Highlighted for their plug-and-play compatibility with Kollmorgen motors, they enable easy setup with a Workbench interface, and feature simple physical connections including a hybrid connector that is optimized for single-cable motors. The drives’ I/O cage-clamp terminal enables connection in one step, and reduces noise with an optically isolated I/O.

By integrating a powerful multicore Compute Engine–also called a Servo on a Chip–, the AKD2G quickly accommodates changing loads. It achieves a rapid current-loop update rate of 1.28 µs, and velocity- and position-loop updates of 62.5 and 250 µs.

Users can change servo drive settings to fit the machine design. Multiple bus choices are available including EtherCAT and FSoE, and CANopen. The optional Safe Motion Monitor (SMM) improves safety measures. Attendees who would like to schedule time in advance to discuss specific application needs with a company representative may contact Bill Sutton at [email protected].
