Supersensitive Hall Effects

Feb. 17, 2005
The ACS704 is the first SOIC8-packaged Halleffect current sensor with the current path integrated into the package for greater sensitivity and accuracy.

The sensor is available in 15-A and 5-A versions. A Hall-effect magnetic-field sensor measures bidirectional ac or dc currents by measuring the field generated by the current flow. The unit provides 800 V of isolation without additional components because there is no electrical connection between the current path and sensing circuit. Features of the sensor include 25°C accuracy, compliance to lead-free directives, operation from a single 5-V supply, and output is ratiometric to the supply voltage. Its 1.5-m resistance provides extremely low power loss and voltage drop. Applications include motor control and protection, small electric vehicles, battery monitoring and charge control, power distribution and monitoring, and personal UPS systems.
