Servocontroller with Ethernet and Can

July 27, 2006
Communication options for the SilverDust IG8 single-axis servocontroller with drive include RS-232/485, CAN, and Ethernet.

A network of field devices using CAN works simultaneously with a supervisory network on RS-232/485 or Ethernet. The controller is designed for the QuickSilver hightorque NEMA-17 and 23 frame I-Grade stepmotors and encoders. The 12 to 48-Vdc device has eight 5 to 24-Vdc isolated, bidirectional I/O's; four analog inputs; and a built-in voltage clamp and power resistor to dissipate excess power generated during rapid decelerations. The controller has 32k of nonvolatile memory and supports a 100:1 inertial mismatch, point-to-point and profile moves, and an SSI encoder interface. A single cable up to 50-ft long connects the motor and encoder to the controller.
