Compression Moldable Thermoset Foam

May 11, 2006
Basotect TG is reportedly the first thermoset foam that can be thermoformed.

Previous versions of Basotect needed to be impregnated with adhesives, pressed, and then dried to form complex, automotive parts. The new version is said to cut production costs by 20%,

depending on throughput rates. This lightweight (0.56 lb/ ft3 or 9 kg/m3) foam resists flames, withstands temperatures to 392°F (200°C), and has good sound-absorption properties. It can be used for engine hood covers, partition walls between the engine and passenger compartments, transmission tunnels, and engine proximity shells.
