The Dzus captive-screw fastener from Southco, Concordville, Pa. (southco.com), have long been used in aviation, automotive racing, and other applications that expose often-used fasteners to high stresses and strains, along with a healthy dose of vibrations. The fasteners can be quickly opened and closed, and all the hardware is kept together, so there's little chance of loose or lost parts. The fasteners are made of hardened carbon steel with zinc-chromate sealer. The retainers are nylon for general applications, but stainless-steel ones are available for outdoor applications. The corrosion-resistant fasteners fit a variety of thicknesses and the fast-pitch threads deliver quick access and greater pull-up with less turning effort.
