Bosch Rexroth has released an upgrade to its DS1 electrohydraulic controller for offshore winching. The control unit, called the DS2R, uses proportional valve technology to provide several advantages over its predecessor.
The DS2R controller attaches directly to the hydraulic axial piston of the secondary control unit to aid in motion control. An A4VSO axial piston provides open-loop torque control or an A4VSG axial piston provides closed loop torque control.
A high-response proportional valve in the DS2R stabilizes the winch’s active heave compensator in wavy conditions at sea. The controller’s high dynamic response to the ship’s erratic movements helps compensate for waves that would otherwise move the winch cable. The upgrade includes a Rexroth AWXF swivel angle sensor to make heave compensation reliable in harsh open seas.
A DS2E version without the fitted Rexroth proportional valve and a DS2S version with a servo valve instead of a proportional valve are available. Both versions fulfil the very high dynamic requirements of offshore winching applications.
