Take Immediate Action: Stephen Hawking to Answer AI Questions on Reddit

July 27, 2015
If you had the chance to ask one of the most influential theoretical physicists about the future of artificial intelligence, what would you ask?

Today, people are participating in Stephen Hawking’s Ask Me Anything (AMA), which concerns the future of artificial intelligence, in the New Reddit Journal of Science. Reddit opened the thread early to gather questions over an as-of-yet undetermined number of days. Professor Hawking will then proceed to answer the questions over the next few weeks.

This year, Hawking signed an open letter to researchers to weigh the risks and benefits of AI. “The letter acknowledges that AI might one day help eradicate disease and poverty, but it also puts the onus on scientists at the forefront of this technology to keep the human factor front and center of their innovations,” says Hawking in his AMA intro.

How it works

Submit your question and vote on others you would like to see answered. Reddit users will vote on questions based on their content and relevance, and Professor Hawking will choose from the highest-rated questions.
