CIMdata names "big 5" CAM software leaders

Consulting and research firm CIMdata named UGS, IBM/Dassault Systemes, CNC Software, and SolidCAM as 2004's worldwide CAM software market leaders.

Consulting and research firm CIMdata named UGS, IBM/Dassault Systemes, CNC Software, and SolidCAM as 2004's worldwide CAM software market leaders. The same companies were named in 2003 and are expected to repeat in 2005.

Each led in a different ranking of NC software vendors: UGS is identified as the largest CAM software supplier on the basis of dollar volume, estimated at $115 million in 2004, a market share of 14.4%. The other top NC software providers are IBM/Dassault, PTC, Hitachi Zosen Systems, and Delcam. IBM/Dassault is the largest vendor on the basis of end-user payments for NC software and services. CNC Software retained its position as the leading CAM software vendor due to the number of industrial seats installed, estimated at 48,152 as of the end of 2004. And SolidCam was the fastest-growing software vendor in 2004 with revenue growth of 51.1%.
