Texas Memory Systems, Houston, claims it has developed the industry's first solid-state disk with 4-Gbit Fibre Channel interfaces. The RamSan-400 is said to be the only storage device able to sustain 3 Gbyte/sec of random data transfers or 500k random I/Os per sec.
The main beneficiaries of the device are companies using large Oracle databases. "We expect this to be the fastest high-speed I/O device for Oracle databases anywhere on the planet," says Burleson Consulting Group President Donald Burleson. The new disk drive is expected to find use in online transactions as well as analytical processing, modeling, content streaming, and high-volume data acquisition.
