The TT62 Alekto from High Performance Aircraft GmbH — made from composite fibers and boasting the latest in avionic and engine technology — recently made its maiden flight. But it was also the first flight for the Centurion 4.0 V8 diesel Fadec engine from Thielert Aircraft Engines GmbH.

The five-seater aircraft's twin diesels (installed inside the fuselage behind the cockpit) power two five-blade props connected to the fuselage via pylons. The diesels can use jet fuel (kerosene) or diesel fuel and deliver 310 bhp at a torque of 946 Nm at the propeller. Electronic engine and propeller controls let pilots operate the engine with a single lever.
