A thin-film coating protects the display from air and moisture.
The coating, called Barix, is made of thin layers of transparent ceramic barrier material deposited with alternating thin plastic layers. The layering repeats to reach the desired resistance to water vapor and oxygen permeability. The coating is typically less than 2-m m thick.
Vacuum-deposition techniques are used to deposit the thin-film layers of nanoscale organic and inorganic materials in the multilayer stacks. The substrate is typically a polyester film.
PARTNERSHIPS
Alase Technologies and GSI/Lumonics have a new relationship. Alase will support the full series of GSI Lumonics GMAX 2 and threeaxis Scan Heads using GSI Lumonics HC/3 Scan and Laser Control Interface card with WinMCL Plus software with a direct port from Alase's WinLase 3.2 laser-marking software.
Olympus Corp. and Purdue University are collaborating on a three-year project to develop technologies that will use omnipresent cameras and sensors to monitor and enhance the well being of people in future living environments. These smart devices will be networked with miniature sensors worn by individuals, enabling people especially the elderly and impaired to have fuller lives and greater peace of mind. Olympus is providing $1.05 million over three years to finance the project.
K-TEK has a new partnership with ASI Instruments that focuses on the detection and measurement of dry bulk solids.
