Driving Sustainability in the Healthcare Industry
Thurs., Feb. 9, 12:30 p.m.-1:15 p.m. PT
As much as the healthcare industry saves lives, it also generates a significant amount of waste. Dhiraj Uikey, a global marketing leader for the health care segment at SABIC, points to WHO data, which notes that “of the total amount of waste generated by health-care activities, about 85% is general, non-hazardous waste comparable to domestic waste. The remaining 15% is considered hazardous material that may be infectious, chemical or radioactive.” If not managed properly, this waste can lead to health risks indirectly through the release of pathogens and toxic pollutants into the environment.

Uikey’s presentation will focus on the growing need for proper plastic waste segregation and collection, along with the potential to chemically recycle this waste and bring back the recycled plastics into the healthcare industry via closed-loop projects.
