AN INNOVATIVE, LEAK-TIGHT RADIAL SHAFT SEAL FOR ROLLER BEARINGS IN STEEL MILLS

Nov. 13, 2015
Sponsored by Freudenberg
Seals for work rolls in steel plants are replaced after 8,000 hours of operation at most. That does not match the requirements of the wind power industry, which demands a service life of up to 20 years or about 150,000 hours. Radial shaft seals are used in both applications. Developing a new, innovative radial shaft seal to meet the special needs of the steel industry was an ambitious goal. Time-intensive development work at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies produced the Merkel Radiamatic RPM 41 radial shaft seal that is already being successfully used, particularly in American steel plants and in Europe as well. All the design elements of this innovative radial shaft seal create the necessary solution to meet the special demands of the steel industry.
