EXAIR Updates Its Digital Static Meter

March 20, 2025
The Model 7905 digital static meter is designed to measure static electricity and improve safety and efficiency in manufacturing environments.

Static electricity can disrupt operations, compromise product quality and pose risks to employee safety and manufacturing environments. To address these challenges, EXAIR offers an upgraded Model 7905 digital static meter, a tool for identifying and eliminating static-related issues.

Key features of the digital static meter include:

  • Accuracy readings of ±5% of the displayed value
  • Compact design. For easy handling and integration into workflows
  • Certified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The digital static meter detects surface voltage and polarity on objects up to ±20 kV, with a maximum working range of ±19.99 kV, but is not suitable for use in hazardous or explosive environments, according to Jordan Shouse, application engineer at EXAIR.

Users can quickly locate areas of highest voltage within their facilities with a button press. The meter provides LED-illuminated readings for visibility and accuracy, with an accuracy of ±5% of the displayed reading. The meter should be placed 1 in. from the surface of the material, which is assisted by a built-in LED indicator light, according to Shouse, adding that the target area must be at least 5 in. × 5 in. to ensure reliable measurements.

Certified for accuracy by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Model 7905 enables facilities to take proactive measures against static related disruptions; however Shouse notes that it does not offer capabilities for external data transmission or connection to existing industrial control systems and data acquisition software.

In addition to its compact design (it measures 4 in. × 2.25 in. × 0.75 in. and weighs 0.3 lb), the meter is intended for integration into existing machinery and production lines. While the device’s lifecycle has not been officially published, Shouse says, users could expect reliable performance for years with proper care.

The company also offers a range of static eliminators, including super ion air knives and Intellistat ionizing air guns, ionizing bars, ion air cannons and ion air guns designed to neutralize static electricity.
