Sustainable Agriculture: Weed-free Fields with Lasers

Aug. 12, 2024
Cutting-edge laser weeding technology uses an advanced computer vision system and AI deep learning models to help with crop management and promote sustainable agricultural practices while significantly reducing the need for herbicides.

As we face challenges in sustainable agriculture and the need for effective weed management, Carbon Robotics’ LaserWeeder can identify weeds and crops in real-time to eradicate the weeds with high-powered lasers.

In this first of a two-part series, Machine Design and the CEO of Carbon Robotics, Paul Mikesell, explore the vision behind the company as well as how the machine and its vision system has been field-tested since 2018, making for an innovative and sustainable way to kill weeds without the need for herbicides.
