Entrenched in Robotics: An On-the-Go Conversation with Jan Hennecke

May 1, 2024
In this impromptu interview, Jan Hennecke, a robotics product manager at igus, defines “value creation” as he works the robotics tradeshow circuit.

Machine Design checked in with Jan Hennecke, product manager at igus, ahead of Machine Design’s week of robotics coverage.

During the week of May 13-17, Machine Design will publish only robotics related content. igus is sponsoring the full week of robotics coverage. A webinar planned for Thurs., May 16, will ask a panel of robotics experts to define the term “value creation” based on the robotics industry segments they serve.

In this video, Hennecke explains what value creation means at igus.

Cost is a major factor in value creation. “There are costs associated with everything,” Hennecke said. “There are costs associated with the actual manual labor. There are costs associated to quality. And then there are cost associated with all the managerial tasks. So, with automation, we can simplify and streamline those processes through robots and systems, and thereby eliminate those costs.”

Hennecke pointed to his company’s RBTX marketplace as a way to help customers lower costs. Automation is often viewed as expensive, with even the cheapest options being out of reach for small and mid-sized businesses, said Hennecke. The RBTX marketplace offers low-cost components and solutions that can provide accessibility and options for businesses of all sizes, he said.
