Improve Laser Drilling Performance with Piezo-based Motion Technique
Oct. 11, 2023
Precision and throughput in laser drilling systems can be further enhanced with a new piezo-based motion technique. Laser drilling can be used for a variety of applications, including PCB microvia formation, fuel injection nozzles, aerospace component cooling, inkjet printer heads, and medical applications.
The precision and speed of laser drilling are constrained by various elements, such as optical distortions, tracking precision, motion stage acceleration constraints, and the effectiveness of focus control. Piezo scanners can enhance the performance of a laser drilling setup in both fixed and moving beam approaches. Although the piezo motion system can account for some of the limitations inherent to those two types of setups, there are still factors that must be considered to ensure smooth operation.
