Master Bond Supreme 17HT is a one-component toughened epoxy for bonding and sealing. It has a moderate viscosity system with good flow properties. It is formulated to cure at 300°F in 4 to 6 hours or 350°F in 2 to 4 hours. To obtain the utmost in optimum properties, curing at 300°F for 4 to 6 hours plus a post-cure of 8 to 12 hours at 350°F is recommended. It is important to note that Supreme 17HT is not premixed and frozen and its working life is unlimited at room temperature. It will only cure upon heating. The recommended storage condition for Supreme 17HT is refrigeration.
Supreme 17HT has many desirable characteristics, especially the combination of high shear and peel strength. It bonds well to a wide variety of substrates including metal, ceramics, composites, and many plastics. As mentioned above it is a toughened system meaning that it is less rigid than more conventional high-temperature resistant epoxy. Therefore it fits well for bonding dissimilar substrates. This toughness also imparts the capability of withstanding thermal cycling. The service temperature range is from -100°F to +550°F. It is 100% reactive and does not contain any solvents or diluents.
It has very good chemical resistance to water, oils, and fuels as well as many acids and bases. Not surprisingly it is a superior electrical insulator. It is amber in color.
It is also available in a paste version called Supreme 17HTND-2, which is black in color. Supreme 17HT should be considered for specialty bonding applications where high-temperature resistance and the ability to withstand thermal cycling is a priority.
