Low Temperature Effects on Bearing Performance

Low Temperature Effects on Bearing Performance

Sept. 20, 2018
Bearing performance and wear characteristics depend in great part on the operating environment. Temperature is a particularly important factor, since operating outside of a bearing’s recommended temperature range can cause rapid degradation and catastrophic failure.
Heat from the natural climate, nearby equipment, and bearing operation itself must be considered when analyzing the thermal impact bearings will endure in a given application.

The following analysis of low temperature effects is tailored toward greased radial ball bearings. However, the principles are applicable to many bearing products.
