Control valves handle critical throttling conditions

April 26, 2007
CPT valves from Flowserve Corp., Dallas (flowserve.com), control steam pressure or pH levels, operate in cryogenic conditions and temperatures up to 1,000°F, and also meet EPA and OSHA standards for handling toxic chemicals.

The versatile valves use a throttling seat made of full-contact sintered steel impregnated with TFE or graphite for self-lubrication to handle throttling. The steel seat eliminates galling and can be one of several standard equal-percentage V shapes, linear slots, or a variety of other types, including dual-angle, noise attenuation, and multistage pressure drop. The seat and extremely round ball in the valve reduce the torque needed to activate the valve, increase precision, and extend the valve's life.

A separate polymer seat is dedicated to drop-tight, zero-leakage shutoff. This, together with its floating-ball design, lets CPT valves handle bidirectional operations and still exceed ANSI Class IV shutoff standards.

Valve seats can be made of a variety of materials to handle specific chemicals or resist corrosion. These include Inconel 600, Hastelloy C22, Stellite, and Monel. Connections can be either NPT, SW, BW, flanges, wafer, sanitary, or compression.
