Learn to control noise and vibration

March 1, 2007
The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) will present an on-site seminar, Vibration and Noise Control for Industrial and Mobile Machinery, to be held

The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) will present an on-site seminar, “Vibration and Noise Control for Industrial and Mobile Machinery,” to be held April 24 to 27. The seminar deals with modeling and analysis of mechanical systems under free and forced vibration. Attendees will look at vibration and noise reduction techniques in one, two, and multi-degree of freedom systems. Practical laboratory demonstrations and MATLAB Simulink simulations will cover vibration measurement and experimental modal testing. The course includes a presentation on current ISO standards and the impact of vibration and noise on the human body.

Upon completion of the seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Model and analyze simple vibratory systems.

  • Solve motion equations for single degree of freedom systems: time response and frequency analysis.

  • Identify strategies for vibration control.

  • Determine natural frequencies and mode shapes for systems with two and three degrees of freedom.

  • Develop appropriate analytical models for simulation using MATLAB with Simulink.

  • Perform measurements and conduct modal tests on simple systems.

Dr. Subha K. Kumpaty, P.E., Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, MSOE, and Dr. Rama Bhat, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Concordia University, Montreal, Canada will present the seminar. Register by March 23 for a reduced rate of $1,240. Late registration is $1,340.
