Collets 101

Aug. 21, 2003
A new Web-based program educates tooling users on the finer points of tooling selection.

Developed by Miami-based Centaur Precision Tools, (www.centaurtools.com), the objective of this segment is to improve machining accuracy by selecting the proper collets to hold the cutting tool.

The program covers collet types and recommended applications, proper ways to insert and release collets, advantages of different types, concentricity charts, inch and metric sizes, and data on collets with internal or external coolant feed. Useful information on accuracy, holding strengths, clamping ranges, and proper tightening torques is included as well.

Centaur Precision Tools provides a complete line of precision tooling systems, CNC and VDI toolholders, and tapping systems.
