Today the need for factory automation solutions with continuous linear-position feedback is increasing and the demand for high performance position transducers has never been greater. The cost of these systems, however, may be a concern for designers and integrators who have traditionally used discrete feedback devices and lower cost actuation and control hardware.
It is important to look at overall system cost and attempt to reduce the per axis cost wherever possible through the selection of the optimal combination of components. One example is to use an inherent capability of magnetostrictive linear-position sensors to provide multiple position feedback along the same plane of motion.
