Application Specialist Mark Rivers is Reell’s initial point of contact for new customer applications.  He has strong knowledge of both the Reell product line and the ways in which Reell technology can be used.

Mark is a graduate of Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne and has extensive experience in both Product and Program Management in the mechanical engineering field.

Friction Hinges (sometime called constant torque or positioning hinges) are a largely unknown technology, but in the right application can provide an elegant and inexpensive solution for holding mechanical components in place while still allowing easy adjustment. Think laptop screen positioning – it’s one of Reell’s largest applications. Application specialist Mark Rivers and the Reell engineering team will explore both the technology behind friction hinges as well as design characteristics that might make a friction hinge work for your application.

Topics include:

  • What is a friction hinge/position hinge?

  • Common uses and applications of friction hinges, including LCD screens, hatches, covers, headrests and more

  • How do I specify a friction hinge?  What are common design considerations?

  • What is ReellTorq®, Reell’s patented friction hinge technology

  • Standard Reell offerings, including door hinges, flag hinges and torque inserts
