Ultra-sensitive Design Flex pressure switches resist shocks and vibrations

The Design Flex PSF100A Series of pressure-sensing switches from the World Magnetics Co., Traverse City, Mich., uses a patented dual-diaphragm/dual-contact design that protects against false actuations due to shock or vibration. Each switch weighs less than 10 gm and measures 1.88 × 1 × .46 in. The SPST, normally open, double-make/double-break switch will withstand 50 gs of shock and 10 gs of 50 to 2,000-Hz vibrations without mistakenly closing, thanks to the novel configuration.

The switches are rated for over 20 million cycles and maintain a current rating of 30 mA for that period. They operate in temperatures ranging from –40 to 150°F, standard, which can be expanded to –46 to 205°F. Tolerances on the switching points is ±20%, but these can be tightened. Gold contact points prevent corrosion and ensure a long life. Proof pressures are 8 psi when setpoints are 3 in. of H2O or less and for switches with Teflon diaphragms, and 15 psi for units with setpoints higher than 3-in. of H2O. The switches will work with air or other compatible fluids as the switching medium.

The line of switches meet ISO:9001:2008 and Mil-Spec standards, are certified as safe by UL, and comply with RoHS and European Union directives on banned substances. The manufacturer will send a free sample on request.
