The handle and motor housing on a new series of power drills from Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp., Brookfield, Wis. (www.mil-electric-tool.com), have an ergonomic, vibration-damping grip made from Santoprene TPV.

A soft-touch thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) grip helps isolate vibration in a new power drill so craftsmen experience less muscle stress and fatigue. The Santoprene TPV from Advanced Elastomer Systems L.P., Akron, Ohio (www.aestep.com), gives a tactile grip to 1/2, 3/8, and 1/4-in. corded drills. The material is molded onto the glass-filled nylon handle and motor housing using a two-shot injection-molding process.

The 55 Shore A TPV forms a durable chemical bond to the glass-filled nylon without an adhesive. It also resists high temperatures and chemicals while providing the user a secure grip even when wet.
