A new motor for electric and hybrid-electric vehicles designed by Raser Technologies, Provo, Utah does not require permanent magnets. Kraig T. Higginson, executive chairman of Raser hopes the 100-kilowatt ac induction based electric motor will put hybrid motors more in the mainstream: "These advancements should let Raser provide a more economical motor for the next generation of hybrids." Frost & Sullivan recently awarded the Drive System Technology Innovation of the Year Award to Raser for its ac induction-based technology. More Information:
