High-power inverter starts chilly lamps

June 7, 2007
E220 Series dc-ac inverters from Endicott Research Group Inc., Endicott, N.Y., output 12 W at starting voltages to 2,300 Vrms for reliable cold-cathode fluorescent-lamp (CCFL) ignition at low temperatures.

The low-profile PCB-mountable package works for CCFL-backlit LCDs ranging in size from 5.7 to 15-in. diagonal.

The 0.60 X 1.2 X 1.56-in. inverter is fully vacuum encapsulated to resist shock, vibration, and humidity. Only the pins are exposed for attachment to PC boards, especially useful for embedded designs. E220 Series inverters target instrument-panel displays in forklift trucks for cold-storage warehouses, agricultural and construction equipment, EMS vehicles, and watercraft. Operating temperature range is –4 to 158°F.
