Lighting by Musco Lighting, Oskaloosa, Iowa (www.musco.com), will comprise what the company calls the world's largest outdoor lighting project. Twenty-two lighting towers will illuminate the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford Race on a July night in Cleveland. As a comparison, a typical college football game requires four towers. "This is by far the largest mobile lighting challenge we've ever taken on," says Joe Crookham, Musco president. "The 22 trucks, generators, and lighting systems will create as much light as nearly half a million car headlights," he adds. The Cleveland layout is the only 2-mile circuit in the U.S. where fans can see the entire racetrack from bleacher seats. The event draws more than 100,000 fans over the three days of competition.
