The Exosuit is based in part on the Newtsuit which Nuytten designed in 1987. Both suits permit atmospheric dives and carry their own air supply. The Exosuit retains the Newtsuit’s rotary joint design that lets divers move easily underwater. One of the improvements on the Exosuit is three-fingered Prehensor grippers which replace the plierlike pincers on the Newtsuit.
