Stanley-Rocket

The current holder of the land-speed record for steam power is the 16-ft-long, 3-ft-wide Stanley Rocket from the Stanley Motor Carriage Co. Its 3.1-liter twin-piston, doubleacting engine working with 1,000-psi steam powered the 1,675-lb car to almost 127 mph in 1906. This record covered all gas-powered vehicles until Glenn Curtis rode a V8- equipped motorcycle to 136 mph.
