pivoted-pad bearings

For standard pivoted-pad bearings with six equal “square” pads, pivot location along the pad circumference affects bearing temperature. Moving the pivot to 60 or 70% of the circumference improves cooling performance under a 400-psi load run at 1,800 rpm. The bearings here were lubricated with ISO viscosity-grade VG-68 industrial mineral-oil feed at 120°F.
