The noncaptive actuator does not have built-in antirotation. Typically, the screw ends are fixed and the load is connected to the motor itself. The motor moves along the screw and carries the load with it. Stroke lengths range from 8 to 20 in., depending on frame size. This configuration suits small gantry robots, X-Y motion systems, imaging, and precision fluid dispensing. For specialized applications, the noncaptive actuator lets multiple motors operate on a single screw.
