In laser staking printed-circuit boards (PCBs), an infrared laser targets the locating feature of an injection-molded PCB housing and its joining partner, a rivet head. Laser energy passes through the joining partner and is absorbed by the locating finger. The finger heats and softens to join with the rivet head to create a positive-locking joint.
