Ink-jet techniques can replace some of the steps in traditional printed-circuit-board fabrication. The resulting process is both simpler and “greener,” using less material. In one study by Dow Electronic Materials, Marlborough, Mass., ink jetting demonstrated 80% less waste over the life cycle of resist material used in fabrication of PCBs when used in the place of ordinary 25-μm dry film for etch resist.
