Double and triple-flux clutches have curved slots, sometimes called banana slots, in the rotor and armature. The slots create additional air gaps that cause the magnetic flux to weave between the contact surfaces, boosting the number of poles and the torque. A tripleflux clutch can transmit up to 90% more torque than a similarly sized single-flux unit.
