effect-of-bearing

This table lists approximate bearing
temperature drop with various engineering
modifications. These are averaged results
for 4 and 8-in. bearings with 200-psi load at
3,600 rpm, and C/R = 0.002.

Note a: There is only minor temperature drop
in laminar bearing-oil film for diameters up to
about 16 in. at speeds of 3,600 rpm. However,
the design reduces power loss and mean
bearing temperature rise 37.5% for largerdiameter
bearings operating with turbulent
oil films, which normally experience high
power loss in the oil-filled upper-half of a split
bearing.
