An application-specific integrated circuit handles the operation of eight capacitive touch plates to form a rotary slide control. The plates may form a ring or linear slide. Variable width plates may also form a linear slide control by proportionally comparing the output from each plate. A finger placed at different points changes the effective plate area, and thus capacitance for each plate.
