Objet Ltd., www.objet.com ., which develops, manufactures, and sells ultra-thin-layer, high-resolution 3D printing machines for rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing, showcased the impact of its advanced technologies on Hollywood blockbusters at SIGGRAPH 2012 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Jason Lopes, Lead Systems Engineer at Legacy Effects, demonstrated how 3D technology is used in the design and prototyping of characters for Hollywood films. Some of the 3D-printed models of Legacy characters on display during the presentation, as well as in Objet's booth (#235) throughout SIGGRAPH, include the Hulk from "Marvel: The Avengers" and Wahoon and John Carter from "John Carter."
The models demonstrate versatility of Objet's 107 "digital materials," which can simulate properties ranging from varying grades of rubber to ABS-grade engineering plastics, as well as clear transparency.
In its booth, Objet featured these materials on three of its machines: the Objet24 desktop, the Objet Eden260V professional, and the Objet Connex350 multi-material 3D Printers.
"Objet's technology has helped us bring creativity and imagination to life in ways we never thought possible," says Lopes. "Objet 3D printers can prototype in a matter of hours anything we can think up."
