Good reasons to buy American

The following thoughts were forwarded by a reader, and I totally agree.

"My physics teacher in high school told us students that while one grasshopper sitting on railroad tracks wouldn't slow a train at all, a billion of them could cause the train to topple over and crash. With that thought in mind, consider the following:

Just yesterday I was in Wal Mart looking for a wastebasket. I found some made in China for $6.99. I didn't want to pay that much so I asked a salesperson if the store had any others. She took me to another department where better wastebaskets only cost $2.50 — and they were made in the U.S. Same thing for a kitchen rug. I found some nice ones made in the U.S. and they were $3.00 cheaper.

We are being brain-washed that everything coming from China and Mexico is cheaper. Not so. So don't buy cards at Hallmark anymore. They are made in China and are expensive. Buy them at Dollar Tree for 50 cents each and made in the U.S.

Another example: I was in Lowe's the other day to purchase hose attachments. They were all made in China. Hose attachments in Ace Hardware are made in the U.S.

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else — even their job or lack thereof.

Lots of us like Hershey's candy. But it is marked "Made in Mexico" now. So don't buy it anymore. Colgate toothpaste is also made in Mexico. Switch to Crest. Read the labels on everything.

On to another aisle and Bounce Dryer Sheets. Yep, you guessed it, Bounce costs more and is made in Canada. The Everyday Value brand cost less and is made in the U.S. I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!

Start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the U.S. The job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

(We should have awakened a decade ago.)"
