Stainless-steel paint

October 25, 2007

Printer-friendly version

Steel It, a two-part stainless-steel epoxy paint, protects nonsubmerged structures from water, salt air, detergents, and solvents. The system consists of an epoxy primer and finish coating with a 316L stainless-steel leafing pigment that creates a gray satin finish. The chip-resistant metallic barrier withstands continuous 2,000-hr salt-spray tests. It is applied by brush, roller, or spray gun, and comes in gallon and quart kits. A polyurethanebased formulation is also available for applications needing better UV resistance instead of acid resistance.

I think this stainless steel

I think this stainless steel paint is exactly what we need to paint all metal parts outside the house. I must ask though, is it poisonous? I have kids running around in the yard and I don't want them to get sick.

Paint's safe, used properly

According to the manufacturer, the prodcut is safe, contains no lead, and is USDA appraoved for incidental contact with food. (So don't cut your food on it, but it's fine for dinner tables. And while it is toxic right out of the can (solvents and such), once dried, it should be safe.
