Chinese-Built 60 mpg Wildfire Puts a New Face on Motorcycles

The Chinese-built Wildfire is actually a three-wheeled motorcycle with some added coachwork. Perhaps its most noteworthy feature is its 60-mpg rating. There are two versions, a sedan for $7,781 and a delivery truck for $7,160. Each is powered by a 26-hp, 650-cc, water-cooled four-stroke twin engine. A four-speed manual transmission includes reverse. Front and rear drum brakes provide stopping power. Cruising speed is 45 mph, and top speed is 65 mph. The delivery version, which has collapsible bed sides, can carry a 1,000-lb load. The vehicles are street legal in every state except California, a state in which the company has yet to get the vehicles approved and certified.

Why do engineering publications keep giving attention and therfore credence to garbage like this? If MD is going to report on automobiles then report on real cars and trucks before Obama and his Marxists outlaw them. A cornerstone of the "change" will be that free market choice is replaced with 2-3 vehicles you can "apply" to buy depending on your family size. After submitting your request, a panel of incompetent, non- accountbale hard left beauracrats, working under the presidents automotive "czar" will review your application within 6-12 months, and render a decision. In that scenario, junk like this would be at or near the top of the govermenets "preferred" list.

How many Americans will loose their lives driving a crappy overrated motorcycle before they are recalled? My favorite past time at Wal-Mart waiting for my kids using the restroom, is reading the latest recalls of goods from China posted on Wal-Mart’s public bulletin board. They average about 14 a month. I imagine those toys and appliances passed some agencies certification too.

Actually, they are street legal in California, you just can't register one in California until it's racked up 7500 miles.
