Upgrading your technical printer

Aug. 24, 2006
Engineers and designers always want faster printers, color if possible, and capable of generating large drawings and technical documents.

To meet that need, Hewlett-Packard Co., Palo Alto, Calif. (hp.com), has brought out the Designjet 4500 Series of printers. The units output two D/A-1 prints in color in less than 1 min, up to 100/hr. It can deliver prints measuring 2,400 3 1,200 dpi with 0.1% line accuracy. Users save time with driverless multifile printing that needs only a TCP/IP connection and a Web browser. The devices support a range of formats, including TIFF, JPEG, CALS/G4, HR-RTL, HP-GL/2, Adobe Postscript Level 3, and PDF 1.5t, The printers also serve as a scanner, scanning three ips (color) and 10 ips (black and white). They can scan a 2 D/A-1 print in less than a minute with 508-dpi resolution.
