Software Simulates Casting

Oct. 21, 2004
ProCast 2004, an FEA package for foundry simulation, provides fast optimization of designs for a wide range of processes, from high and low-pressure die casting to sand and investment casting.

ProCAST simulates a high-pressure die casting of an aluminum automotive part. The mesh generator is available on all platforms supported by the 2004 release. A new algorithm finds the best mesh for each simulation.

The software includes advanced capabilities in automatic meshing, thermal analysis, metal flow, stress and deformation, microstructure analysis, and radiation effects. The 2004 version features a new user interface and improved performances in speed, accuracy, and processing. Features include an efficient and intuitive visualization environment. Project-file management is improved with a software manager which provides direct access to various modules such as meshing, pre and postprocessing, and thermal and flow solvers. New features and tools include the mesh generator to enhance CAD integration with third-party software using standard exchange formats such as Step, Parasolid, and IGES.
