Screws interlock with plastic

April 1, 2005
BosScrew fasteners reportedly prevent plastic assemblies from loosening as a result of plastic creep that dissipates clamp load.

The product is said to provide as much as four times the holding power and drive-to-strip ratio 66% better than other screws used in plastics. They feature a series of "pressure wells" or indentations along the upper face of the thread circumference. Once assembled, plastic creeps into the indentations, creating resistance bumps with valleys in-between. To loosen, the crests in the screw thread between the indentations must climb over each bump. The resistance to loosening is as much as 450% greater than that offered by other fasteners used in plastics. The BosScrew has a traditional 48° form and standard head. It provides a virtually vibrationproof joint, eliminates the need for flat washers and reinforcing inserts, and can be removed and reused.
