Linear Actuators

Sept. 28, 2006
An alternative to pneumatic or hydraulic systems, the redesigned Bug linear actuators are said to offer improved strength, precision, and reliability, while keeping the same compact footprint of the original.

Features include ABEC-7 angular contact bearings and interchangeable motor-mounting plates. A Kevlar drive belt and pulleys provide 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, and 5:1 drive ratios. The unit eliminates the gears between the motor and drive screw for low backlash and low audible noise. The 17 motor options include dc, dc servo, dc gearmotors, steppers, and animatic smart motors. Optional absolute position feedback remembers position even if power is lost. Controller-set travel limits have an accuracy of ±0.0003 in. (bidirectional) and ±0.0001 in. (unidirectional) within a temperature range of 20 to 120°F. Additional specs include linear speeds from 0.0001 to 20 ips, built-in endofstroke cushion, full-stroke lengths from 2 to 8 in., and an actuation force up to 500 lb.
